Fantastic experience learning about Jewish experiences during the Gilded Age in NYC Family took the “Jewish Stories of the Gilded Age on NYC’s Upper East Side” tour with tour guide Richard. He was full of information about not only wealthy (and not-so-wealthy) Gilded Age families, but also Gilded Age history in general in NYC and how the two worlds intersected. Tour focussed on both existing and torn-down buildings, which was the starting point for discussions about society, business, politics and all sorts of other aspects of the time.
We highly recommend the GCT tour. We took the tour on December 18th and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour guide Jonathan is very knowledgeable, ebullient and enjoyable to be with. Many, many years ago I majored in American History so Jonathan‘s extensive knowledge of the history of GCT and the Vanderbilt family was a treat. We wandered almost all of the ground level and upstairs floors that are open to the public. We even went outside and crossed the street so that we could look at the historic façade of the building.
Enjoy the tour, we highly recommend it.
Super knowledgeable guide. Interesting tour I had read a book this year about Amsterdam settling Manhattan so I was super excited for this tour to be able yo put my eyes on some of the things I had read. The tour guide Mandy was the best of the best guide for this. So knowledgeable and clearly loved sharing the info on this tour. Plus she had great insight into other things to see and read. The tour was all I hoped it would be.
Best way to see Grand Central! What a great way to learn more about Grand Central and its history! The small group size made it easy to navigate thru the station during the tour. We learned so much about the building and all the extras that you don’t see when traveling thru the station. You could tell that our guide, Christian, really enjoyed his job and sharing the history of the station. Would highly recommend!
Excellent, highly recommend Katie was excellent! She was knowledgable and informative. It was cold and windy and she kept things interesting to keep our minds off the cold!
High recommend this tour and Katie as a guide.
Must Do!! This was an excellent tour. If you are interested in obscure facts and nuanced information about historic buildings like Grand Central Station, then you absolutely need to go on this tour. Jonathan was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and explained it in a fun and entertaining way. This is definitely a must do.
Excellent tour of NYC History and Soaking in the Atmosphere of a Bygone Era. Great tour for anyone interested in NYC History, architecture, or the Gilded Age, whether you live in NY or elsewhere. You will learn a lot, see some amazing surviving beautiful mansions of different styles that somehow survived the constant “renovation” of NYC, and hear some fascinating stories that will leave you digging for more.
Richard, the guide, was knowledgeable and affable, kept everyone together, and answered any questions. It was a very pleasant way to spend two hours, even on a cold NY day.
Exceptional. Unbelievable tour, Anthony was great, if you love history and historical preservation this tour is for you. Especially If you have enjoyed the terminal and want to learn more.
Awesome! What a great surprise! I didn’t know what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Lots of interesting tidbits about the terminal, lots of history around the people involved in building it as well as what was going on in the city/country at the time and how that affected the building. Our guide was a great, knowledgeable story teller.
Great tour – even if you’ve already been to the city a lot I come to NYC quite often and am always in midtown. While I have been to the Upper East Side, it has been a while and I didn’t know much about it. This tour is fairly priced and was a great exploration about the history of the city I thought I already knew well. It was great to get out from the places I’ve usually been to I’d recommend it for everyone.
November 2025 tour with Pete I had a great afternoon exploring the subway with Pete and a small group. He provided excellent facts and told the story of the subway’s origins. We got to see hidden details and views of abandoned stations I never noticed before. I highly recommend this tour!
Hidden gem Loved learning about this beautiful historic place. So glad Jackie O was successful it saving it from destruction. Our guide (a true New Yorker) was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and engaging. You could tell he loved what he was doing. The tour was far far better than I expected. Highly recommend the tour! A hidden gem.
Pleasant and Very Interesting A very fun, educational and pleasant afternoon. Bob knows all the great stories we were hoping to hear. Most of the actual mansions are long gone sadly, but Bob has good photos to compare then versus now. Several of the old gentlemen’s clubs are still there. The tour follows 5th Avenue along the east side of Central Park and on a nice day like we had it was gorgeous. Great bang for the buck!
Great walk through the Gilded Age Kate provided a really informative walk through the Gilded Age. She is very well informed and quite articulate. Her presentation was both comprehensible and very engaging. It was a great morning and an excellent complement to the tv show of the same name.
Highly recommend! Fantastic tour, very informative and engaging. Christian, our guide, was great. Would recommend to anyone who’s interested in NYC or travel history.
Wonderful time Our tour guide was Johnathan and he was terrific. He gave us a very interesting and detailed tour and it was obvious he knew his history throughly.
It was a very special experience and my sister and I enjoyed it very much.
Based on this experience I look forward to taking another tour soon.
The tour was very interesting and fun. We learned a lot about Grand Central Terminal how it was built, etc. We really enjoyed! We learned a lot about Grand Central terminal and it’s history. We are native New Yorkers – there were so many things. We never noticed even though we have been there many times.
